What stage are you at in your apprenticeship journey?
I am about three and a half months into my apprenticeship journey.
What made you decide to undertake an apprenticeship? How did you come to work in print?
I undertook the apprenticeship to gain a better understanding of the leadership procedure and progress my career into more of a management role. I initially started in the print industry over 29 years ago with a BTEC 1st Diploma in Print. From South Nottingham College.
Tell us about some of the key knowledge, skills, and behaviours you have developed since starting your apprenticeship.
Conflict Management using the Thomas-Kilman Instrument. Using ‘Word’ and other computer skills.
Tell us about a typical day at work for you.
A typical day involves setting up and running print jobs using the flexographic technique and operating a Prophereer. 8 colour printing press. Have also started getting involved in Production meetings.
What’s the most enjoyable part of your apprenticeship?
Learning new skills and getting more involved in the organisation and people management.
What do you see yourself doing on achievement of your apprenticeship?
I would like to progress into more of a management role.
Would you recommend apprenticeships in the print industry to others, and what would you tell them about the industry?
Yes I would recommend it, Matt Child Is very knowledgeable in his field and helps the students.
What do you think are the benefits of undertaking an apprenticeship?
My computer skills have definitely improved. Learn different approaches and how people approach things in different ways.
