What stage are you at in your apprenticeship journey?

I am roughly one year into my apprenticeship.

What made you decide to undertake an apprenticeship? How did you come to work in print?

I have taken this course to further my understanding of not only myself but my work colleagues and gain abetter understand of business and how positive management can help you in a workplace.

Tell us about some of the key knowledge, skills, and behaviours you have developed since starting your apprenticeship.

The big key change I have seen in myself is the way I handle difficult situations and/or difficult people. Using the new skills I am able to bring them down and that has been a large success in my role.

Tell us about a typical day at work for you.

I manage 15-18 people a day on one shift but see 4 shifts a week. I also deal with front office staff who lay out our plans. From there I oversee machine efficiencies and keeping production flowing through our department.

What’s the most enjoyable part of your apprenticeship?

The prospect that having this apprenticeship with open more doors for me.

What do you see yourself doing on achievement of your apprenticeship?

Gaining a promotion to the cut and crease manager role.

Would you recommend apprenticeships in the print industry to others, and what would you tell them about the industry?

I would recommend them as they tackle the way in which you see things and help you develop as a person at work. Working in the industry has been great for me. It is hard work and long hours but if you put the time and effort in you can move on and hard work never goes unnoticed.

What do you think are the benefits of undertaking an apprenticeship?

Aside from the qualifications you will achieve that will be vital to move on through the ranks, you learn about yourself and others. How to work in larger groups and to handle difficult situations.
